City Lights, an innovative musical based on Charlie Chaplin’s 1931 masterpiece, is coming to the Belgrade Drama Theatre in a new collaboration with the National Theatre of Greece. Following two enormously successful seasons at the NTG (2022-2023 and 2023-2024), the production originated by Amalia Bennett, Nikita Milivojevic and Thodoris Economou’s, with lyrics by Stavros Stavrou, features Prokopis Agathokleous reprising his role as Chaplin and an entirely new Serbian cast. The first round of performances is scheduled for 1 to 12 December 2024, with a second round from 5 to 9 February 2025.

Founded in 1947 as the City Theatre, the Belgrade is the Serbian capital’s oldest theatre, although its focus is firmly on contemporary plays and new productions.

City Lights is an extraordinary piece of theatre, bringing together live music, songs, action, and boundless energy to pay tribute to the multi-talented Little Tramp, the heroism of ordinary people, and timeless human values.

The musical accompaniment is performed live on stage by Thodoris Economou on piano.
