As a major theatrical organisation, the National Theatre of Greece has a duty to listen to the needs of people who want to express themselves through the literary form of the play – future playwrights – and to support them in this effort by passing on the valuable knowledge of its own people. In this context, as early as 2014 we took the initiative of organising a playwriting workshop.

The aim of the programme was to strengthen the personal style of the participants and at the same time to familiarise them with the practical side of the theatre. Within a thematic framework, advisors and speakers covering a wide range of activities (writers, directors, actors, dramatists, and critics) introduced themes and monitored the development of the plays, providing the young writers with material and observations.

The "Third Playwriting Studio for young people up to 35 years old", with director Sylvia Liouliou at the helm, lasted two academic years (November 2017-June 2019).

 

In the first year of the Studio, the participants were: Penelope Aggouria, Nikolas Androulakis, Panagiotis Barbagiannis, Alkinoos Doris, Stavros Giannouladis, Thodoris Iosifidis, Xenia Kalantzi, Alexandra Katsarou, Marianna Lianou, Dimitra Mitsakis, Emmanouela Oikonomou, Simos Riniotis, Antigoni Stavropoulou, Klio Velentza, Sotiria Zachariadou, Genovefa Zanga.

 

The participants in the second year, continuing from the first year, were: Nikolas Androulakis, Alkinoos Doris, Stavros Giannouladis, Thodoris Iosifidis, Xenia Kalantzi, Alexandra Katsarou, Marianna Lianou, Dimitra Mitsakis, Emmanouela Oikonomou, Antigoni Stavropoulou, Klio Velentza, Genovefa Zanga. The readings were performed by: Elena Marsidou, Giannis Panagopoulos, Stefanos Papatrechas, Maria Vardaka, Lazaros Vartanis.

From 16 to 19 January, the plays by the participants in the Third Writing Studio were presented in the Hall of the Ziller Building in the form of readings.
