The ΕΤC International Theatre Conference at the National Theatre of Greece, 3-7 April, Athens
31.1.2025
“Thrive Theatre Thrive! Keep the Flame Alive” is the title of the international conference to be hosted by the National Theatre of Greece (NTG) in partnership with the European Theatre Convention (ΕΤC), the largest network of theatres in Europe, which is also curating the conference programme. The NTG has been a member of the ETC since May 2022.
The conference, which is aimed at the ETC’s member theatres, takes place every six months in a different European city and country. It is a forum for discussion, where we can think and work together to shape a better future for the theatre, the arts, and society.
This year, from 3 to 7 April 2025, cultural professionals and creatives from across Europe and beyond will meet at the National Theatre of Greece in the heart of Athens, the birthplace of the dramatic arts and a symbol not only of a glorious past but also of contemporary creative energy. During the conference, the NTG will function as a space to consider the burning issues that directly affect our culture and our theatres.
The conference will raise pressing questions that demand urgent discussion:
- How can our theatres defend democratic and humanistic values in 2025?
- How can theatres remain resilient, creative, and free in the face of these challenges?
- Can our artistic choices combat misinformation and protect the freedom of creators?
- What kind of leadership and working conditions do our theatres need?
- What relationship should theatres develop with the next generation?
Above all: how can we remain accessible and sustainable organisations, continue producing meaningful artistic work, and serve as a source of prosperity for our communities and society?
All these questions will take centre stage through a diverse four-day programme of speeches, discussions, and workshops.
At the same time, the daily programme will be supplemented by the Showcase of NTG productions, now in its third year, which aims to raise the visibility of Greek theatre abroad. After all, theatre is a universal language – one we are committed to preserving!
During the same period, the Showcase of NTG productions, now in its third year, will also be taking place. Because after all, theatre is a universal language – one we are committed to preserving!
