The first round of National Theatre Residencies has begun!

15.5.2024

The first phase of the National Theatre of Greece’s Residencies programme for emerging theatre creators, writers, directors and dramaturgs in Europe has begun. This is another of the NTG’s cultural outreach and exchange initiatives to promote mobility and nurture the new generation of theatre-makers.

Three emerging theatre artists based in Europe are being hosted by the NTG in Athens, while three Greek-based artists are travelling to three major theatre organisations and cities in Europe. The artistic residency lasts up to 75 days. During this time, the artists will acquire first-hand knowledge of how a major theatre organisation functions, while having the opportunity to work with its staff and immerse themselves in the artistic currents and cultural life of the host city, thereby deepening their theoretical knowledge and increasing their practical skills.

The artists chosen to travel to the major European theatres with which the National Theatre is partnering are the dramaturg Xenia Kalantzi, selected by the State Šiauliai Drama Theatre in Šiauliai (Lithuania), the director Sofia Antoniou, selected by the Teatro Stabile Veneto in Padua (Italy), and the dramaturg and director Despina-Dorina Remediaki, selected by the National Theatre Marin Sorescu in Craiova (Romania).

At the end of May, the National Theatre will be hosting three gifted artists who stood out from a set of extremely interesting applications from European creators: the Lithuanian director Uršulė Barto, the Slovak dramaturg and researcher Alexandra Rychtarčíková and the Hungarian writer Bence Biró.

At the same time, the process of selecting theatre-makers to participate in the second round of the programme will begin. More information about the Open Call for Applications will be announced soon on n-t.gr.

“National Theatre of Greece Outreach Initiatives” (code ΟΠΣ ΤΑ 5167037) are implemented in the framework of the “Greece 2.0” National Recovery and Resilience Plan with funding from the European Union – Next Generation EU.
