In her body, a new polyphonic work directed by Eleni Efthymiou about the wonders, joys, victories – but also oppression – experienced by the female body opens at the Nikos Kourkoulos Stage in the Ziller Building on 13 November.
A marvellous cast of twelve women of different ages and backgrounds makes up a dynamic Chorus that explores the pains as well as the pleasures of femininity through the prism of the physical self. The director and her all-women creative team have created a production that speaks in a bold, funny, poetic and truthful way about female affairs, but that will also resonate with all genders.
How freely do we talk about orgasms, periods, pregnancy and the menopause? Abortion and childbirth? Masturbation, gender transition, the right to childlessness? About the female body’s capacity for transformation and constant change, about the oppression it endures in order to be considered desirable, but also about violence. How openly do we discuss the violence that is inscribed on women's bodies?
Inspired by real-life events, In her body becomes the vehicle for a powerful female chorus – with a united desire to shed light on topics that remain taboo in society today – to celebrate the body and self-determination, inviting us on a transformative journey towards awakening and freedom.
