ZILLER BUILDING - MAIN STAGE

Like a fairy in the human world, with a poetic, fluid and undefined existence, Trisevyene pays no heed to moderation and reason. Her freedom, bewitching and frightening, cannot be subjugated. She falls in love with and marries the son of her father's sworn enemy, intensifying the vendetta between the two families and bringing her father's curse upon her.
The social bonds that she paid no heed to when she was free are no easier to bear now that she is married.
Her behaviour continues to challenge the institutions and the mores of narrow provincial society, leading to a final, unavoidable rupture that will determine her fate.

Written in 1902, Costis Palamas’s only theatrical work is a conscious attempt to contribute to the Theatre of Ideas and help raise the status of home-grown drama at that time. One of the most important works in the modern Greek canon, Trisevyene is full of poetry and symbolism, a fable and a paean to a beauty which is not bound by rules and regulations.
The experience and knowledge of Lydia Koniordou, the play's director, combine with an exceptional cast of talented actors to reveal the power of the spirit and the poetic timelessness of this classic text.

Main Stage productions are performed in rotating repertory.
