Homelands looks at immigration, one of the most pressing problems of society today, from a variety of viewpoints. Two pieces of post-war literature and stories of real immigrants Greek and foreign are the raw material for a production that approaches a sensitive topic without stereotyping, reminding us that homeland, displacement and the desire to return to ones birthplace are timeless and universal concepts.
Thanasis Papathanasiou and Michalis Reppas return to a subject that they have looked at in the past (Evros opposite and In-laws from Tirana), but with a different tone and purpose. A play that eschews commentary and psychological analysis, Homelands exposes the rapid loss of memory and lack of humanity sometimes shown to immigrants by a people who just 50 years ago were migrants themselves. The cast of six Greek and three foreign actors cast a direct light on the common human experience.
