Invisible Olga - AUSTRAS or COUCH GRASS

by Giannis Tsiros, Lena Kistopoulou

From 02.11.2011 to 26.02.2012

INVISIBLE OLGA (by Giannis Tsiros)
A young immigrant woman becomes the victim of human trafficking and is trapped with no hope of escape from a system with no moral code.

Based on a true story and personal accounts, Giannis Tsiros’s work has the power and immediacy of a documentary.  It was presented last year for a limited number of performances, when it received excellent reviews.

Invisible Olga is part of Emergency Entrance, an international theatre project involving the National Theatre of Greece, Teatro Garibaldi (Italy), the Habima National Theatre of Israel, the National Theatre of Prague, the Hungarian Theatre of Cluj (Romania) and Schauspielhaus Graz (Austria). Emergency Entrance is funded by the EU Culture Programme 2007-13, in partnership with the Union of the Theatres of Europe. The programme was unveiled in Cluz in December 2010, and all the productions will be performed together at the Emergency Entrance Festival in Graz, Austria from 26 to 29 January 2012.

AUSTRAS or COUCH GRASS (by Lena Kitsopoulou)
A group of young friends invite a tourist in Greece to visit them at home, creating tension between them and bringing about unexpected consequences.

Armed with a sharp wit and a bold ideological position, the writer makes an outstanding comment on distortions and pathologies in Greek society arising from the issue of immigration.

The Greek National Theatre invited two of the country’s best known young writers, Giannis Tsiros and Lena Kitsopoulou, each to write a one-act play inspired by the word “foreigner”. Their works present two fascinating versions of the term, which are linked directly with the reality of the Greece today. The plays are a joint production with the Vryssaki Living Space of Art and Action, where they will be performed, and are brought to the stage by two young and talented directors who between them can already boast an interesting body of work.
