On the Stage "Marika Kotopouli" , a long-hoped-for miracle takes place. Apostolos Pavlou, the director of the First Pathological Clinic at Evangelismos Hospital, together with his doctors and nurses, manages to take Death captive. This unexpected victory on the part of Life will trigger a series of strange events that go beyond the bounds of what is rational: windows sing, medical gloves become full of an unknown fungus, and lifts stop working even though there seems to be nothing wrong with them. Patients recover while the wards and corridors are filled with music. Until everyone realises the utter futility of their venture.

Evangelismos, the musical is a show about time and love. Angelos Triantafyllou and Dimitris Stavropoulos take Giannis Asteris’ libretto as a starting point for the creation of a surreal and alien world made of all-too perishable materials; a world that is unbearably familiar but at the same time outlandish. The “inmates” of the hospital, its doctors, nurses, patients and attendants, sing for those who have already left, but also for those who wish to say goodbye. The elimination of Death will not bring good news, however. That will come only when Death is freed by the caress of a woman’s hand… for “the circle of life is made with wisdom; the circle of life must be completed", as the directors of the production point out.

The two creators take a sideways look at the practices and techniques of the musical, expanding its boundaries and extending its perspectives. A superb cast of 21 actors take part in a performance in praise of life, whose unavoidably finite nature makes it so beautiful and precious. The original score by Angelos Triantafyllou and the songs performed live on stage by accomplished musicians and singers give a polyphonic musical narrative to a spectacle where death is not the end but the beginning of a rebirth.
