Third Edition of Artistic Residency Programme at NTG
The National Theatre of Greece invited emerging artists, regardless of gender, who hold the nationality of an EU member state (excluding Greek nationality), are based in the European Union, and are active in the field of theatre as writers, directors, or dramaturgs to express their interest in participating in the 3rd Artistic Residency Programme at the National Theatre.
During the programme, three artists-in-residency will have the opportunity to join the National Theatre of Greece, collaborate with its staff, gain in-depth knowledge of how the theatre operates, familiarize themselves with current artistic trends and the cultural life of Athens, and deepen their own research and practice.
The NTG is welcoming three talented European creators in September: the director Mirjam Loibl (Germany), the playwright Oumaima Belkhdar (Netherlands) and the playwright Nicolò Sordo (Italy).
The European creators at the National Theatre of Greece
Mirjam Loibl
Mirjam Loibl is a Berlin-based theatre director.
Her work is presented at various city and state theatres across the German-speaking region, with productions in Munich, Magdeburg, Zurich and beyond. She also creates radio plays.
Loibl combines precise physicality with improvisational processes, exploring how body, language and rhythm can enter new relationships. Her rehearsal practice is collaborative and research-driven, with a growing interest in interdisciplinary formats.
In 2024, her production Woyzeck | Marie was shortlisted for the Berliner Theatertreffen. She has been repeatedly named a promising emerging director by Theater heute and teaches at leading drama schools in Munich and Salzburg.
Oumaima Belkhdar
Oumaima Belkhdar (she/her, 2000) is a spoken word artist and writer creating experimental, genre-defying work that challenges and reimagines storytelling. Her absurdist work often explores alternate realities, zooming in on the grey space between social positions and identity. Recurring themes include time travel, mental health, (post)colonialism, and internet culture. She is a former resident of the Dutch-Flemish cultural house deBuren, has co-produced a visual-ethnographic documentary, performed on various stages, and has been published in De Revisor, among others. Oumaima is currently writing her theater debut with Theater Bellevue and Dawn Collective, while also working on her first novel.
Nicolò Sordo
Nicolò Sordo (Colà, Garda Lake, 1992), with a background in classical studies and acting, won the Riccione Teatro Pier Vittorio Tondelli Prize for "Ok Boomer (I'm an Asshole Too)". His plays have been presented at major contemporary theatre festivals in Italy and have been staged by directors such as Elio De Capitani, Davide Iodice, Alessandro Rossetto, and Babilonia Teatri. His work offers an authorial take on reality.
The “Art Residencies” Programme is one of the “SUB. 6.2 - National Theater's initiatives to promote Greek Theater abroad” (code ΟΠΣ ΤΑ 5167037) implemented in the framework of the “Greece 2.0” National Recovery and Resilience Plan with funding from the European Union (NextGenerationEU).
