Theano Xydia is a dancer and choreographer based in Athens. She graduated from the Greek National School of Dance in 2018 and has since delved into improvisation techniques, starting with Julyen Hamilton’s instant composition (Netherlands, Spain, Greece) and further influenced by teachers such as Ermis Malkotsis, Daria Fain, and Meg Stuart.
As a choreographer, she has presented the works Tripping (2018, KET – TV Control Center), The War of the Romantics (Bazeos Tower, 2024). She has also worked in theatre as a choreographer in Run (dir. G. Valai, 2022), Atlas in the 2000s and Sentimental Education: exploring a history of ruptures(dir. P. Flatsousis, 2023–2024).
As a performer, she has collaborated with choreographers such as Christos Papadopoulos, Ioanna Paraskevopoulou, Giannis Nikolaidis, and Anastasia Lyra. Since 2020, she has been a steady collaborator of Griffon Dance Company and Ioanna Portolou, performing in productions presented at the Athens Epidaurus Festival, the Municipal Theatre of Piraeus, and PLYFA.
She has also participated in theatre and visual arts projects by Fenia Papadodima (Athens Epidaurus Festival) and Nikos Navridis (Greek National Opera). She was a founding member of the Underscore collective and the artistic space M54.
