Joanna Toumpakari was born in 1980, in Athens. She graduated with distinction from the State School of Dance in Athens and has a postgraduate Diploma in Contemporary Dance from London Contemporary Dance School.
She has collaborated with the National Theatre of Greece, National Theatre of Northern Greece, Foniadakis Andonis, Oktana dancetheatre, Yelp dance company, Zita dance company, Proshima dance company, Manoliadi Markella, Kavallieratos Marianna, Birba Efi, Biniaris Aris, Kakleas Yiannis, Kaklea Lenio and more.
In 2023 she participated in the movie Animal directed by Sofia Exarchou.
She has obtained a black belt in wushu kung fu, and a coach certificate from the Ministry of Sports.
She is the head coach at the athletic club Inner Fist based in Athens.
The latest years she has been teaching kung fu at the Drama School of the National Theatre.
